The Inn at Fossebridge

The Inn at Fossebridge is immersed in 300 years of history … as a coaching inn on the Fosseway and as a hostelry named after wealthy landowner Lord Chedworth. Indeed the Inn had opened by 1759 and was then known at Lord Chedworth’s Arms, a name recalled in the wonderful old bar that still exists today; the name was changed to The Fossebridge Inn in the early 19th century.

It is today a beautiful Cotswold retreat, with wonderful accommodation, grounds and fine food. The Inn is within an hour from Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Cirencester, the delightful capital of the Cotswolds, Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold. You will find many pretty hamlets and villages nearby which seem to look today as they did a few centuries ago. The Inn at Fossebridge is between the Gloucestershire towns of Cirencester and Northleach, within a dip on the A429.

Georgian Styling Bedrooms

In more recent years the Inn faced closure as its former owner wanted to redevelop the site as apartments…but businessman Robert Jenkins and his family saw it, fell in love with its potential and decided to create The Inn at Fossebridge. It is now as near as possible to its previous reputation as a wonderful hotel with good food set in great surroundings.

It was a huge task … all the bedrooms have been refurbished to follow the style of Georgian times … each has its own special feature; each is named after a town or village in the Cotswolds: Bibury, Cirencester, Tetbury, Fossebridge, Burford, Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh.

Dining

The bar, with its integral restaurant, is a real attention grabber with its log fires and mellow Cotswold stone walls. Enjoy a wide range of beers, fine wines and refreshing juices created within the region.

Dine by the fire amongst the buzz of local villagers, who have supported the very special endeavours of Robert Jenkins and his daughter Liz; a graduate of the Pru Leith School of cookery. Liz often works alongside the hotel’s leading French chef; who together create high quality food which they describe as the best in pub food. They offer special dishes for which Liz and Robert select and purchase all the ingredients.

Right from the beginning they decided it must not be pretentious…no one whispers at the Inn at Fossebridge; its atmosphere reflects life in one of the most beautiful areas of the United Kingdom….flagstones and limestone, Cotswold stone cottages and meandering streams; England’s green and pleasant land.
