The Wild Duck Inn

The Wild Duck Inn, which dates back to 1563, is uniquely situated in a country setting in the quiet Cotswold village of Ewen. The Wild Duck is open every day of the week throughout the year, and this family run establishment aims to ensure a friendly comfortable atmosphere with good food and pleasing wines and ales.

There is a delightful garden to relax in or dine al fresco. The Post Horn bar which has a welcoming open fire in winter serves a varied choice of food and an excellent range of traditional ales and wines.

The country style restaurant has a warm and welcoming ambience with a delicious ever changing menu which specialises in fresh seasonal fare.

The Wild Duck provides traditional comfort with en suite rooms, all with wireless internet access, colour TV’s, DVD players, and tea/coffee making facilities. Some of the rooms are in the oldest part of the building and are furnished in four–poster style.
Within a mile, The Wild Duck is surrounded by the Cotswold Water Park, with 80 lakes providing fishing, swimming, sailing, water and jet–skiing. Polo is played regularly at Cirencester Park, Cheltenham hosts the Gold Cup Race Meeting, and there are the annual horse trials at Gatcombe Park and Badminton.

The Bar
The Wild Duck bar is everything that you would expect to find in a 16th century building. With deep red walls, and hung with old oil portraits the atmosphere is complete with a roaring log fire throughout the winter months. With 5 real ales and an extensive and innovative wine list to compliment the delicious food on offer. The full menu plus daily specials is available throughout the bar and dining room together with a pannini lunch menu.

The Garden
Outside is a delightful enclosed courtyard canopied by a huge apple tree, where you can take breakfast in the summer, lunch or even an evening meal under patio heaters.

Staying at The Wild Duck Inn
Our rooms have all been refurbished with hand made black lacquered four poster beds, so even our standard doubles are superior.

We have twelve individually designed and characterful bedrooms.

The Chinese suite (pictured top left) is in the oldest part of the building, dating from the 16th century. Converted from an attached barn, it is a huge room with A–framed beams and a 10ft high four–poster bed. The ensuite bathroom has both a large freestanding tub and large shower.

If you are looking for a more traditional beamed room in a country Inn, then we recommend either room 9 or 10. They are also in the oldest part of the building, overlook the garden and are accessed by a winding staircase – very romantic.

Room 8 is a more traditional country house room, retaining many of it’s original features and retro decor. Most of the bedrooms have hand–built four poster beds, a flat screen TV, DVD player, direct dial telephone, wireless internet access and tea/coffee making facilities.

There is also an exclusive residents lounge, The Grouse Room. Here you can read the papers, have tea or simply relax in front of the large open fire.

The Cotswolds
The Wild Duck at Ewen although in a very small village, is conveniently situated for many events or attractions in the Cotswolds, including Badminton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Park Horse Trials, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Cirencester Park Polo Club, The Beaufort Polo Club and Slimbridge Wildlife park. There are three golf courses in the area, and shooting can be arranged at Ladyswood Shooting Club or at a local Farm shoot. We are close to the Thames path, so many lovely walks are around in the area.

Prices
Single occupancy from £70 per night (with double bed), doubles from £110 per night (standard four poster), double occupancy (Rooms 9 and 10) at £135 per night and The Chinese Suite at £165 per night. Price includes continental breakfast and VAT. A full English Breakfast is an additional £8.95.

To book your stay with us please phone 01285 770310 together with a credit card number to secure the booking.

Please note that you must give us at least 7 days cancellation notice, or a full charge will be made against your booking.

The Restaurant
For a warm, inviting and relaxed atmosphere, the dining room also carries old portraits on deep red walls. Our menu is ever changing, and we cater for vegetarians and those with special dietry needs. Our food is produced from as much local organic produce that we can source, and the head chef, Richard Mann, designs his menu around Modern British and European food with a nod sometimes to the far east.

Menu and Wine List
The Wild Duck has a very warm and welcoming deep red dining room with a wealth of old beams and portraits – a true reflection of a country dining room.

Our chefs are proud to produce excellent fare using as much local produce as we can. When available, we source the best organic meat from the Highgrove Estate. Our fish comes overnight from Brixham, ensuring it is almost as fresh as when first caught. We will always try our very best to accommodate anyone who has special dietary needs.

The main menu is available fom 6.45pm – 10.00pm, and 6.45pm – 9.45pm Sunday. Light meals and lunches are available from 12.00 – 2.00pm. We change our menu regularly – the following is a sample menu – call to find out the latest menu – we’ll even fax or email it to you.

Bruern Holiday Cottages

For Bruern Holiday Cottages website click here

The finest luxury holiday cottages, not just in the Cotswolds but in the whole of the UK as well, Bruern Holiday Cottages were the national winners of the English Tourism Council's Excellence in England Gold and Silver Awards for Self-catering Holiday of the Year 1998 and 2003. Bruern Holiday Cottages offer the comfort and attention to detail of a good hotel; the privacy, independence and space of home; and the civilised ease and style of English country house living.

That's why Bruern Holiday Cottages are the five star luxury benchmark for the most important and prestigious national and official UK inspection organisations.

Bruern is a tiny hamlet in the Evenlode Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of the Cotswolds.

The award winning holiday cottages were converted from the mellow stone Victorian stable yard and outbuildings of Bruern Abbey, a handsome 18th century country house visible over the trees opposite. They are stylish, luxurious and unusually well equipped, more country house than cottage, with open fires and four poster beds as well as state of the art bathrooms, and kitchens.

They sleep 2 - 10.

Each has a private enclosed terrace with hardwood garden furniture, a big white umbrella and barbecue, and many have their own secluded gardens too.

There is a new indoor swimming pool, changing rooms, spa and gym.

At Bruern you will not feel uncomfortably aware of your neighbours.

In the beautifully landscaped gardens and grounds there are tennis, croquet and swimming.

Children have their own special play area.

There are wonderful wildlife walks in the neighbouring Nature Reserve at Foxholes and along the Oxfordshire Way (which runs past the Stable Yard), and fly fishing, golf and riding are available near at hand.

Bruern's central location makes it an excellent base for exploring The Cotswolds -Oxford is half an hour away, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Shakespeare National Theatre under an hour, and Cheltenham (racing and the annual Literary Festival) much the same.

As well as stately homes like Blenheim, some of England's loveliest gardens are nearby - Hidcote, Kiftsgate, Barnsley House, Sezincote, Snowshill, Rousham Park, and Sudeley Castle.

On the way you can indulge yourself, antiquing in Stow-on-the-Wold, bargain hunting in Bicester Village and stopping off for lunch in one of several excellent local pubs and restaurants. Children can explore the Cotswold Wild Life Park, the Model Village at Bourton-on-the-Water, Bourton Model Railway and the Coggs Manor Farm museum.

You may well have read about Bruern already - in the US edition of Conde Nast Traveler, Vogue, The Sunday Times, Country Living Magazine, Good Housekeeping and other magazines and newspapers. But whatever the hype, we think you will still be pleasantly surprised by the reality.

For the best Cotswold views, get behind the wheel of a classic car from Great Escape. Choose your car, choose your destination, collect the keys and go. From our doorstep you can explore the honey-stone villages and winding roads of the Cotwolds in either our classic twin-cam Alfa Romeo Spider or our stunning Jensen Interceptor. Both cars are easy to drive and you can collect from our central site or we can deliver your car to your accommodation.

Our beautiful drop-top Alfa Spider is the classy alternative to the MGB and Triumph TR6. It’s fitted with the classic twin cam 2 litre Alfa engine and finished in burgundy metallic with a tan interior.

The Jensen is an entirely different proposition. Built locally in West Bromwich, our 1974 Mark 3 was one of the last built.
