Local Area
Best Western Sudbury House Hotel is situated on the edge of the market town of Faringdon in Oxfordshire. Faringdon was once known as "Chipping Faringdon" which meant "the market place on the ferny down". The market place has been the centre of the town since Henry III granted the charter for a market in 1218. Since then it became the main market for the area, including regular cattle, sheep, corn and dairy markets, as well as two annual horse fairs and even a fair purely for the hiring of servants!
Nearby are the University City of Oxford, Swindon, Cheltenham, The Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace, Uffington White Horse & The Ridgeway Walk, Radcot Bridge (the oldest bridge over the River Thames), as well as many country mansion houses. |
